Google oddity

For the starters I should say that the visitor amounts have risen 100% during November, which was the first surprise that caused me to dig in deeper. Also, one should note that the statistics include two separate sites: this personal site and the site of a lovely french bulldog Dora.

After looking more closely at the statistics I noticed that there has been steady increase in visitor amounts of both sites - Google is still the number one referrer. But the major shock came from the "search string" section. The most sought after search string is "joulukuvia" (Christmas pictures)!

Funnily enough, the first result on the list points to a image gallery page at Dora's page - obviously containing photos of Dora during last Christmas.

The second most wanted search string was "joulutonttu" (Christmas elf). Google rank of #6 pointed to a specific image in Dora's Christmas gallery.

So, what do we learn from this? Obviously the Christmas is coming, and people want to have nice pictures for whatever purposes. But the big thing here is the META information that is automatically provided for the search engines by the MidCOM running under the hood of both sites. It's truly amazing what one can achieve in Google ranks by just typing in content, isn't it?
