Wireless freedom

Since I started at Nemein back in 2001, I've used expect wireless connectivity pretty much everywhere. However, the high price tags for useful personal boxes have kept me from getting my home covered.

To put an end to the wire mess in my apartment I decided to buy a wireless broadband router, which nowadays come pretty cheap and packed with features. So, three months ago I bought my first box .

It worked like a charm for three days... alas, it was not to last. After the initial bliss, the box started to cut my connection twice per hour - not only wireless connections but everything. I started to monitor the box and noticed that everytime the cut happened, all the lights blinked off for a second. So, I came to a conclusion that it probably overheats and resets itself. This theory was packed by numerous postings on Internet forums.

So, I took the box back to the shop and to my surprise walked away with a new router in my hands. As with the first one, the second box did it's job for three days...

Finally, grown tired of Counter-Strike dying in the middle of a game, I went to the shop to switch the box to another brand. I must say I haven't had better service in a IT-shop for a long time. Verkkokauppa switched my second SMC to a Buffalo WBR2-54G without hassle - I had already seen nightmares of the reclamation process.

It will be interesting to see whether the new box will last longer than three days...
